Nokia Beta Labs continues their innovation. Besides many new astonishing app from labs, its good to see their continued support for maps which by the way is one of the best and smoothest app I have ever used. It got even better with the integration of Foursquare check in. That’s right, now the same app that gets you around town lets you check in to Foursquare (and Qype too). Check in was already there in the 3.06 beta for Facebook, Twitter and a bunch of other networks, but Foursquare was missing. Not anymore. Nokia pushed a fresh 3.06 build to Beta Labs yesterday, so just open the place, hit check in and share it on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare in one go.

There is one more nice addition. If the place you are at is not in Ovi Maps at all, you can now add it yourself as a public place and once its reviewed, everyone else will find it on their maps too.

The beta is for Symbian^3 phones like the N8, E7, C7 and C6-01 and also S60 5th edition phones like the N97, N97 mini, X6, C6-00, 5800 XM, 5235 and 5230. Its only at Beta Labs for now, you need an Ovi account to download, and it should hit the Ovi Store soon. Go grab it and let us know how it works for you!!

Vodafone has confirmed that they will be rolling out 3G services to all the 10 circles in India by March end this year. Vodafone has acquired licenses for 3G for Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (E), West Bengal, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Delhi. We are very curious to see their tariffs, but nothing on pricing has come out yet. What we do know is that the launch wont be pan India or even circle wise. Naveen Chopra, their Director for Enterprise and Carrier Business, says the network is ready and “currently in optimisation”, and they will switch it on city by city in a phased manner. Trials are already on.

If you were wondering, Vodafone had said back in October that 3G would be live in the Jan-March quarter with Delhi and Mumbai going first. Their 3G signals have already been spotted by users in Noida, Delhi and Pune this month, but Marten Pieters had said they would launch only when a good part of a city is covered.

Its about time though. Tata Docomo and Reliance have had 3G since last year, Airtel went live in Bangalore in January and BSNL and MTNL have been at it even longer. So Vodafone is quite late to the party. We will keep an eye out for the launch and the tariffs. Stay tuned!!

And finally some peace of mind. Despite yesterday’s rumors about delay of iPad launch and iPhone launch, Apple has been sending out media invites with this little picture(above) which obviously says the iPad 2 is coming. We are hoping to see dual camera, dual processor and possibly the retina display as seen in the iPhone 4.

The event is on Wednesday, March 2 at 10 am at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The invite says “Come see what 2011 will be the year of” and the picture is the iOS calendar icon showing March 2, with the page peeling away to show an iPad underneath. March 2, iPad 2. See what they did there ?? Nice one Apple.

Just to recap the drama, Bloomberg had picked up a note from Yuanta Securities saying the iPad 2 got pushed from April to June because of production bottlenecks at Hon Hai and some last minute design changes, and there was a similar story about the next iPhone not making July. Jim Dalrymple at The Loop replied with a simple “Not true” and said both products are on schedule, and this invite settles it. Reports so far point to a faster processor, a FaceTime camera and a thinner, lighter body, though AppleInsider says the screen may not get the higher pixel density. Finally some peace of mind to Apple iPad enthusiasts. Although we all woke up to hear iPad 2 delay today, recent report from AllThingsD has confirmed that iPad 2 event will be held on March 2nd. Reuters also confirmed that there wasn’t gonna be any delays for the event. So now let’s hope to see the thing in flesh next Wednesday.

The delay scare started with some analysts at Yuanta Securities in Taipei, whose note said the April launch could slip to June coz of production bottlenecks at Hon Hai, blamed on some last minute design changes made just before Chinese New Year. Then Reuters came back quoting a source familiar with the matter saying the delay isnt true, and Jim Dalrymple over at The Loop said its not true either, both products are on schedule.

On the event itself, Kara Swisher says several sources close to the situation told her the date is firm and its happening in San Francisco, with invites going out soon. Nothing official from Apple yet though, but thats how Apple does it anyway.

Feature wise, Reuters folks say they saw a working unit with a front facing camera earlier this month, and the case leaks we keep seeing point at a rear camera and a thinner tapered back. Google Nexus Twitter account today announced that the Gingerbread 2.3.3 update will be rolled out to Nexus One and Nexus Users Over-The-Air. The new update will bring new Near Field Communication capabilities to the long resting hardware in the Nexus S. Google has also asked users to be patient as the OTA process might take a few weeks to reach everyone. So dont go hitting that check for updates button every ten minutes, it will show up when it shows up.

For Nexus S owners, the big deal is that the NFC chip can now write to rewritable tags and not just read them. Google had already put out the 2.3.3 SDK earlier this month with a proper NFC reader/writer API for developers, so we should start seeing some apps using it. The update also fixes the random reboots that many Nexus S users have been complaining about.

Nexus One users, this is your first official taste of Gingerbread, more than three months after the Nexus S got it. Well worth the wait we think!!

One small catch for Nexus S users. Facebook contacts get wiped from your phone during this update, since Google says Facebook doesnt play by the rules of the Android contacts API. If you rely on those, back them up. Stay tuned, we’ll update you as the rollout progresses.

We all are waiting for NoDo and Mango update for Windows Phone. Probably those are what you thought of when you read the title. Unfortunately this update isn’t either of these. Although nothing more was said on the Windows Phone Blog about the update, they hinted that this update will make future software update process a lot smoother. In their words, “This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself.” So dont expect to see anything new on the phone once its done.

The update is being rolled out in phases and the timing will vary a bit depending on your carrier, so dont panic if your friend got it and you didnt. You will get a notification on the phone when its your turn. Then plug the phone to your PC via USB and the Zune software will do the rest. Mac users will need the Windows Phone 7 Connector. Make sure you have the latest version of Zune installed before you try.

The good news is that this one is paving the way for the real update. Copy and paste is still expected in early to mid March, as Ballmer said at MWC last week, along with faster app loading and better Marketplace search. So a little more waiting. Stay tuned!!

It sounds too much to happen for one day. But yes it has. Nokia rolled out PR 1.1 to it’s C7 users last week and announced that Nokia N8 users will get early this week. The update for C7 was available OTA(Over The Air) and was 6.7mb download. The new version is v013.016.

Changes in C7 are:

• Web is updated from 7.2.7.3 to 7.2.8.10
• QuickOffice is updated from 6.2.651 to 6.4.166
• Adobe Reader LE is updated from 2.5.560 to 2.5.653

Nokia N8 users woke up to receive the update today morning. Again, it was an Over The air update weighing around 7MB. The new version is v.013.016

• Web updated to 7.2.8.10
• Quickoffice updated to 6.4.166, editing functions now enabled on the N8 (i.e. don’t have to pay to upgrade), improved zooming functions
• Adobe Reader updated to 2.5.653
• Big update to Nokia Email; performance improved; ‘unread emails’ flag added to homescreen widget; meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations; maps integration, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite
• General performance improvements
• Dialler now works in landscape mode

According to Nokia all Symbian^3 users will benefit these features in this update

And finally, Engadget has posted two pictures of new E-series device which they claim it to be the E6. All that we know is its similar to E5/E72 and features an 8MP camera, a dual led flash and front facing camera. This phone should be announced in MWC 2011.

There’s been talk about a Nokia N8 32GB version since morning. The email that folks at received seems to say a 32GB version is coming up. But nothing more. It didn’t specifically mention additional storage via micro sd card. We did a quick search on the Nokia UK page and found that there’s a Nokia N8 32GB version being sold now. And yes it is 16GB internal memory and 16GB on a micro sd card. It retails for £399.00

Would there be a 32GB internal memory version coming out in MWC ? No, I guess. It doesn’t sound like an announcement that should be made in MWC. What do you think ?

The Moscone Center has blocked off reservations for any event between June 5 to June 9 this year. If you’re wondering what’s Moscone Center, its the venue for Apple’s WWDC every year. The dates clearly matches with the event if we take a look back at at previous years event dates.

This year we will see a lot announcements including the most awaited iPhone 5 and Mac OS X Lion. We will also see a look at iOS 5 Gold Master edition. If I’m not wrong, iPhone 5 will ship with iOS 5 by June 21st following its announcement. But that’s just my calculation.
