Nokia N9 Launching In UAE In Just 48 Hours

Two hours back @nokiauae just tweeted that they will releasing the Nokia N9 in UAE in less than two hours. Thats right, this tuesday you can grab one of the Nokia N9 if you’re lucky. A few minutes later they also posted an ad claimed to be the Nokia UAE ad. Price was not mentioned. But surely there’s a launch event and we are awaiting further details. So are you gonna grab one ??

Samsung Introduces The Samsung Galaxy Note: A New Kind Of Phone

Samsung has introduced a new category of mobile phone or lets rather say a new category of device that swings between a cell phone and a tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Note features a 5.3″ HD Super AMOLED screen with 1280×800 resolution and 285ppi. This is one of the gorgeous displays you will ever find. The spacious screen will be your virtual pad and you can scribble just about anything on it using the S-pen. You can quickly jot down a meeting, address or sketch a new design quickly without having to reach for your tablet or any other device.

The Galaxy Note comes with a powerful 1.4Ghz processor, Gingerbread onboard, 8MP camera with LED flash that does 1080p recording, a secondary 2MP camera for video calls and self portraits, 4G/3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, 16gb internal memory, a giant battery with 2500mAh and of course you will see TouchWhiz UI thats on top of all of these.

The device seems to be like a Galaxy S2 on steroids. For those who want bigger, sharper and brighter screen and enhanced battery life than the existing Galaxy S2, this is a good choice. Not to mention the Stylus who has been missing it for years. Samsung seems to believe that bigger is better. We are not against this “Mantra”, but we would appreciate a bit more build quality. The cheap plastic feel of Galaxy S2 is unacceptable for a premium device. However, thats not going to be a deal breaker at all. Galaxy S2 has done very well in the market. We are expecting a good result from the Galaxy Note as well.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Gets An OTA Update

We’re not sure when exactly Samsung started rolling out this new update via OTA. It came as a surprise to me as I was struggling to update my Galaxy S2. As a Mac user running Lion, it was very difficult to get the Kies working on it as Samsung has not released an update to support Lion. However, a trick I found on this website got the Kies up and running on Lion. Unfortunately, it still had issues and did not support firmware upgrade of Galaxy S2 from it.

So I started trying to install the update using Kies 2.0 running on a windows machine. Eventhough the app successfully notified me of the update, each time I hit update it just failed to download at the same time disconnecting the USB connection. Some of the users on the forums suggested removing memory card and trying was a good idea and it worked for a few of them. So I went ahead and removed microSD card and tried. The update after several tries started to download with a new Firmware download window. But then again it failed.

Finally, I simply fired up the OTA menu and checked for updates even though I was sure there wouldn’t be any update. Well, I was wrong. I saw the following screen.

A lot was not said about the update. All I knew was that an update package was waiting for download. It’s a bit weird as the update does not say if its a major update or not. No version number or size of the update. How can a user choose to download the update without knowing the size especially when he is on a data connection ?? Anyway, I started downloading the update without knowing how big it was. It didn’t show the size while downloading either. I’m guessing it was about 15-20MB from the time taken to download.

The download went smooth and the phone restarted to apply the update.

Installation was also smooth except for one moment when it looked like it almost froze. But it was nothing serious. Finally the phone rebooted and the update was installed successfully message was displayed.

We’re not sure what exactly is included in the update. But as usual bug fixes and battery improvement is expected. We will update this post if we come across any big changes. Alternatively you may let us know if you find any changes by commenting to this post. Here’s the information about the update below:

Rumour: Samsung Prepping A Windows Phone On A SGS2 Like Hardware

Samsung has been on a roll lately. They have been making some amazing Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S2. Now it looks like they have their eyes set on Windows Phone as well. Even though there are Samsung Windows Phone in the market, this one has got some special attention from us due to its resemblance to Galaxy S2. WMPU is reporting that there’s a Windows Phone 7 Mango device, with Bluetooth profile of SGH-i937 which is same as WP7 profile and also the device is showing up on Occasional Gamers list of WP7 handsets. The phone boasts a 4.3″ display and possibly similar hardware as seen in the Galaxy S2. The Mango software would definitely make use of the extra powerful hardware.
