Meego 1.2 Released: Version 1.3 Expected in October 2011

You may be an Android user or an iOS user or even a Symbian user. But today the talk of the town is obviously Meego. Thanks to the leaked video of the Nokia N9, we could get a glimpse of the UI and how it works. Today Meego 1.2 has been released mainly targeting the device vendors and developers who can start working on their softwares for this platform.

Some of the Highlights of this release includes:

  • MeeGo Reference Kernels supporting a variety of Intel Atom and ARMv7 platforms.
  • QML Application Framework and extended Qt-Mobility APIs, including additional location, system, connectivity, and sensor/haptic capabilities for rapid, rich, application development.
  • Enhanced Telephony and Connectivity capabilities, including:
    1. GSM, GPRS, and HSPA+ network support
    2. SIM Application Toolkit
    3. Expanded Bluetooth profiles
    4. Expanded VPN and wireless authentication methods
    5. USB, WiFi, and BT-PAN data tethering capability
    6. Enhance multimedia support, including RTSP streaming with progressive download
