Sony just announced the Sony Xperia ZR today which as you might have guessed is a variant of Sony Xperia Z. It is waterproof and dustproof.And looks a lot like Xperia Z itself. So what’s different about this phone ?
Well, it comes with a 4.6″ screen with 720p resolution and 319ppi as opposed to the Full HD display and 5″ screen on Xperia Z. It has the same 2GB RAM seen on the Xperia Z but just 8GB of internal memory instead of the 16GB on Xperia Z. And the MicroSD card on ZR only supports up to 32GB against the 64GB support on the Xperia Z. The processor on Xperia ZR is Quad Core clocked at 1.5Ghz like on the Xperia Z. And its loaded with Android 4.1.
Camera is the same on both the phones which 13.1MP camera that does Full HD videos at 30fps. Similarly, connectivity options are also no different on both phones. You’ll find LTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth etc.
Xperia ZR is basically Xperia Z but cheaper, smaller and prettier in my opinion. There hasn’t been no word on the battery, pricing or launch date yet. But it should happen no later than June this year.
