This might be a good news for the large number of Microsoft Office 365 users out there. Microsoft has finally launched their iPhone version of Office Mobile and its available for download starting today on the US Appstore. Rest of the countries will get the app in the coming week. Microsoft believes this is for quick edits on the go, like fixing a typo or adding a comment, and not a replacement for the Office on your PC.
The app itself is free, but theres a catch. You need an Office 365 subscription (Home Premium, ProPlus and most of the business plans) to sign in and use it. Home Premium costs around $100 a year and covers 5 PCs or Macs, and the same subscription works on up to 5 iPhones too. Once you sign in you can view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents from your SkyDrive, and create new Word and Excel files. Theres also a Resume Reading feature which picks up a Word document right where you left off on your PC.
It needs an iPhone 4, 4S, 5 or the 5th gen iPod touch running iOS 6.1 or later. And if you were wondering, theres no iPad version yet. Microsoft says it will cover 29 languages and 135 markets once the rollout is done. We will update once it shows up in the Indian and UAE stores, so stay tuned.
