Google Maps version 4.0 is the first ever update in 2010 for BlackBerry from Google Maps Team. The new version help you find places faster, post from those places with Google Buzz, star them for quick access, and more. Search by voice Simply press and hold the green “call” button, speak your search, and see the results pop up on the map without typing a single letter. Google says it works with multiple English accents and Mandarin Chinese, so you can say a business name, an address or just a category like pizza and it figures it out. All the voice stuff is server side, so theres a slight delay.

Buzz is making its debut on BlackBerry here. Go to Layers > Buzz to see what people are posting around you, or post something yourself right from where you’re standing. And if you’re signed in to your Google Account, the places you starred on maps.google.com turn up on the phone too.

Labs is in there as well with a Scale Bar and a Terrain layer which should be great if you’re a hiking fan. To get it, just open m.google.com/maps in your BlackBerry browser. This version also adds support for BlackBerry OS 5.0 phones, and theres a separate BES build for office phones. We’re installing it now, so stay tuned!!

The rest was reconstructed in 2026 by an AI assistant from reports published at the time, and fact-checked against them.
