HTC has announced the release of their tablet HTC Flyer to the Indian markets today. Flyer, a 7 inch tablet with single core 1.5GHz processor, 32GB Internal memory, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front facing camera, 3G, WiFi, GPS, Android 2.3(Not HONEYCOMB) will be available for purchase today. HTC has priced the tablet a whopping Rs 39,890 and it goes on sale today at authorized HTC resellers across India. That made us look twice, because the iPad sells here around Rs 29,500, the Samsung Galaxy Tab around Rs 26,000, and even the 64GB BlackBerry PlayBook tops out at Rs 37,990.
So what are you paying for ?? Theres an aluminium unibody, a 1024×600 screen, 1GB RAM, HSPA+ and HTCs tablet version of Sense. The big one is HTC Scribe, you write on the screen with the pen, and Timemark captures the meeting audio in line with your notes. Evernote sync is built into Notes. You get HTC Watch for movies, and HTC says it will work with OnLive to bring cloud gaming to the Flyer sometime later. HTC Indias Faisal Siddiqui says they saw a chance to make a tablet experience thats different, more personal and productive.
About that Gingerbread, HTC said on Twitter in April that a Honeycomb upgrade is coming when its made available. No date. And if you were wondering whether the Scribe pen is in the box, nobody is saying clearly yet. Were checking, stay tuned.
