Apple has renamed its previously announced iOS in the car service to CarPlay which sort of rhymes with AirPlay. CarPlay, Announced today at the Geneva Motor Show will work on all iPhones with a lightning port like the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s. The service will be available on iOS via a software update to iOS 7.
CarPlay will let you access the music, messages, calls, Maps etc while driving on the dashboard touchscreen of your car. This feature will initially be available to Ferrari, Mercedez Benz and Volvo. This feature will also be supported by BMW Group, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota later.
CarPlay will definitely reimagine the way you interact with your car entertainment system. However, the question is, will it be able to stream Google Maps app on to the dashboard for countries where iPhone Maps app does not support navigation.
