The guys at MacRumors has made an impressive video of the rumoured 4 inch display of next iPhone. The video tours you through the 4 inch screen experience that the next iPhone is expected to have. Although the upgrade from 3.5 inch to 4 doesn’t quite sound like a huge upgrade, the updated app screens in the video really do look roomier. What makes the difference is that the screen grows taller and not wider. The width stays at 640 pixels while the height goes up to 1136 from the 960 we have on the iPhone 4S, and thats almost exactly 16:9, the same ratio we have on widescreen TVs and monitors. Should be nice for movies.

The fun part is that iOS 6 already knows about this resolution. The folks at 9to5Mac found that out earlier this month by running Apple’s own simulator at 1136×640, and the home screen neatly gave five full rows of icons instead of the four we get on iOS 5.1. Existing apps though are expected to be letterboxed, which means black bars at the top and bottom, pretty much the way iPhone apps look on an iPad. Not the nicest thing, and games and other apps will have to be updated to make use of all that extra room.

Berlin: Yesterday, Samsung announced their most awaited successor to the Note, the Samsung Galaxy Note II during the Unpacked event held at IFA, Berlin. The new samsung Galaxy Note comes with loads of new features including a gorgeous 5.5 Inch Super AMOLED HD display which is 0.2 inches bigger than the current Note. The display is 1280 x 720 in 16:9. Under the hood theres a 1.6GHz quad core Exynos processor with 2GB of RAM, a big jump from the dual core Note. Theres an 8MP camera at the back, a 1.9MP front camera, 16/32/64GB storage with a microSD slot and a massive 3100mAh battery. Its 9.4mm thick and weighs 180 grams, just 2 grams more than the current Note. And yes, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

The S-pen is thicker and longer now, and theres a new feature called Air View where you hover the pen over emails, gallery or videos and get a preview without touching the screen. Quick Command lets you swipe up for shortcuts to email, search and calls, and Popup Note pops up the moment you pull the pen out.

It will be out in October across Europe, Asia and the Middle East in Marble White and Titanium Grey. No word on the price yet. We’ll try to get our hands on one as soon as it lands here, so stay tuned !!

Sony recently updated the Xperia S to Ice Cream Sandwich. And now they are about to update the Sony Xperia P to ICS this month. In an announcement made on Facebook, Sony Mobile India said that the Xperia P will receive the ICS update anytime between August 19th and 25th. That’s just two weeks away from now, which isnt bad at all considering how long Xperia P owners have been stuck without 4.0.

The update is Android 4.0.4, the same version the Xperia S started getting on June 21st. If you were wondering what to expect, the Xperia S update brought resizable widgets, a recent apps button, better control over mobile data usage and three new apps from Sony, the WALKMAN app, Album and Movies. We’d expect pretty much the same package to land on the Xperia P.

Remember the Xperia P was announced way back at MWC in February and only reached India in May, so the wait hasnt been as long as it feels. Also, the Xperia S rollout was a gradual one depending on the carrier, so dont panic if your phone doesnt show the update on the 19th itself. And since this is from Sony India, we arent sure if the rest of the world follows the same dates.

When Samsung introduced the Galaxy SIII, the 32 GB version was not available in India. One was forced to settle for the 16GB version even if they wanted a 32GB unit. This could be due to manufacturing issues they faced or may be we were not entitled to get the 32GB versions till this point. Anyway, the 32GB has finally shown up on the Samsung eStore in India at Rs 41,500. It comes in Pebble Blue and Marble White, same two colours as the 16GB. When we checked, the listing said not in stock, so Samsung seems to have put the page up just ahead of the stock landing.

Now about the price. The 16GB was launched here on May 31st at Rs 43,180 MRP and has since settled at around Rs 38,400 in the market. So the 32GB is actually cheaper than what the 16GB launched at, and only about three thousand more than the 16GB costs today. Double the memory for that, not bad if youve been holding out.

And if you were wondering about the 64GB, Samsung has said its coming in the second half of this year but only for some regions, so we cant say yet whether India is on that list. The SIII crossed 10 million units sold last week, so theyve got bigger things going on. Stay tuned.
