HTC Announces The New HTC One

HTC just announced their all new HTC One, a phone with 4.7 inch Full HD display and 468ppi on screen. That’s right, the bar has been raised. The phone has 1.7GHz quad core processor which takes a slight lead against the Xperia which has 1.5GHz quad core processor. The phone also sports a 2300mAh battery, 2GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage with no microSD slot, so choose wisely. The processor is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and the phone runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with the new HTC Sense 5 on top.

The camera is where HTC is doing something different. Its a 4MP camera, yes just 4MP, but HTC calls it UltraPixel and says each pixel gathers 300 percent more light than the usual smartphone sensors. It also gets optical image stabilization and an f/2.0 lens. Then there is BoomSound, two stereo speakers on the front with their own amplifiers, and BlinkFeed which turns your homescreen into a live feed of news and social updates. All of this sits in an aluminum unibody thats 9.3mm thick and 143 grams.

HTC says the phone will be available from March in more than 80 countries through 185 plus operators. No word on pricing yet and nothing about India either. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear something, so stay tuned.

Check Out The Backberry Z10 Camera Samples

BlackBerry recently unveiled their latest flagship to the market. We were lucky to have a sample device and we’ve also done a sample unboxing if you missed it you can watch it here.

We’ve been very impressed with the phone. The design is cool, the operating system is very very fluid and works pretty smooth. I was once a hater of Blackberry thinking they weren’t cool enough, now I can’t stop using this Z10. Blackberry has added an 8MP camera to the Z10. You already know about the camera features like Time-shift etc. But what about the clarity ? Well, we’ve put it to test and we came up with this.

We were also curious about the video quality of the camera, so we went ahead and shot a video as well. Make sure you switch to HD mode when you start viewing the video.

Apple Launches Apple TV In India

Even though Apple hasn’t released a press release yet, Apple has silently announced the launch of Apple TV in India on the Apple India website. Apple TV is currently listed in the iPod section of the iPod page. There is also an Apple TV dedicated page which you can access from the iPod section, and that page is already pushing Bollywood movies from the Indian iTunes Store, which if you remember only went live in December.

The price is where things got a bit confusing today. When we first saw the listing it said Rs 7,900 and now it reads Rs 8,295. From what we hear the earlier price didnt include taxes. In the US the same box sells for $99, but thats how it always goes with Apple products here.

This is the third generation Apple TV, the one that does 1080p. You get iTunes movies on the big screen, your iCloud photos, and AirPlay so you can push whatever is on your iPhone or iPad to the TV. Now dont run to the store just yet. Word is stocks havent reached the Apple premium resellers, so its only on the website for now. If you were wondering when you can actually pick one up, stay tuned!!

Apple Airs Two New iPad Mini Ads

Apple iPad has been a massive hit like the iPad. Its everything that we love about the iPad but smaller and better in some ways. Apple continues to market the iPad Mini to the best and they’ve just released two new ads to show what this Mini device can do for you. Here take a look. The two spots are called Alive and Together and they started turning up in primetime TV slots on Sunday.

Theres no narrator this time, no commentary at all. You just get adjectives flashing past to a drum beat and each word lands on an app. Alive gives you Loud and Deep, Together gives you Wild and Bright. We spotted GarageBand, iPhoto, iBooks, TED and FaceTime in there, and both the full size iPad and the Mini get screen time.

The whole point is the app catalogue. There are more than 300,000 apps made specifically for the iPad and since theyre built for iPad they all run on the Mini too. Its a change from the older iPad ads where a single calm narrator talked you through the hardware. Watch both below and tell us which one you liked. If you were wondering which one we prefer, its Alive. Stay tuned.

Whatsapp for Android Gets A Facelift

Whatsapp rocks when it comes to usability and sucks when it comes to UI. While its no major refresh, Whatsapp has made tweaks to meet the new design guidelines from Google. They’re a little late to adopt the changes. but then we all know how long it took them to update the app for anything at all.

So whats new? The update is a beta, version 2.9.2239, and its not on Google Play yet, the Play Store still has 2.9.1547. You have to grab the apk straight from the Whatsapp website and sideload it. The big change is that the app now follows Googles Holo guidelines. The menu bar on top is flat, the message bubbles are flat too and the text input field has been redone. The emoticons button has moved down next to the text box from the top right corner, handier on big screen phones. Fonts look better, image previews in chats are bigger and there are better buttons for playing videos and audio clips. You can also change the chat wallpaper from the chat window now without digging into settings. Notifications are expandable too.

Its still a beta so expect a few bugs. If you cant wait for the Play Store update, head to whatsapp.com and download it. We’re installing it now and will let you know how it goes. Stay tuned !!

Earlier today, we reported the announcement on Blackberry Z10. Hours after the announcement, Etisalat UAE has already put up their pre-order page live for the Blackberry fans to order their units right away. Pre-orders can only be made on existing numbers at the moment though. The device will be available on contract as well, though Etisalat hasnt said anything about the plan pricing yet. Abdulla Ebrahim Al Ahmed, their Senior Vice President for Business, only told Emirates 24|7 at the Dubai launch that “Our customers can buy the Z10 smartphones from February 10”. Thats the same date Blackberry gave for the UAE at the launch, with an unsubsidized price of AED 2,599.

If you are on du, they have started taking pre-orders too, but you have to walk into one of their shops. You pay a refundable deposit of Dh200, get a voucher, and they SMS you when the phone lands. Their offers will be announced on the launch day as well. And if you cant wait for either operator, Axiom Telecom has been taking pre-bookings since a day before the launch. You pay the full Dh2,599 for the 16GB unit in black or white, and they say delivery will be between February 6 and 20.

Nokia Introduces Nokia+ Music Service: Unlimited Music At €3.99

Nokia has just announced the launch of their new music service the Nokia Music+ service. This service will let you enjoy all the songs in the Nokia store for a monthly subscription which is €3.99. Awesome, right ? As you would expect, the service will allow unlimited streaming, skips and downloading of music using your Lumia. If you were wondering whats new here, the free Nokia Music app already lets you stream mixes, but you only get 6 skips an hour and just four mixes for offline listening. Music+ takes away all those limits.

Nokia also says the audio quality is eight times higher than the free service, and you get lyrics on many tracks, karaoke style if you like. The part we like the most is the web app. You can play your mixes on your computer, smart TV or pretty much anything with a decent browser, so you dont need your Lumia in hand all the time. Payment is by credit card inside the app or through your operator bill.

Nokia says Music+ will go live in the next few weeks and roll out to 24 countries this quarter, but they havent said which ones apart from the US. Fingers crossed for India and UAE. Stay tuned, we will let you know as soon as it lands here.

You may also be aware that none of these devices run Android’s latest version, Jelly Bean aka Android OS 4.1 yet. Hopefully, all devices that will be announced in 2013 will come with Jellybean installed meanwhile here’s the road map for the existing devices.

1. Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V- Starting February through March

2. Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia Go- Towards the end of March

3. Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Ion, Xperia Arco S- Starting April through May or even later.

Some of these phones may get updates a little late depending on the customer variants and region.

Unfortunately, Sony has decided not to upgrade Xperia U, Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo and Xperia Sola to Jelly Bean.
