Airtel launches 3G Services In Assam

India’s one of the leading mobile communication network player Airtel launched their 3G services in Guwahati, Assam inviting its 33 lakh subscribers in the state to the service. Customers in Assam will now be able to enjoy a host of exciting 3G capabilities including fast mobile internet access, video streaming, video calling, Mobile TV, social networking on the go and high definition gaming.

Airtel has been on a 3G spree since they switched on Karnataka back in January and was in 33 cities and towns by end of May. Aircel already had 3G running in Guwahati since February, so Airtel isnt the first here, but 33 lakh customers getting it at once is a big deal.

Activating it is the usual drill, SMS 3G to 121. Your 2G data plan gets switched off and you land on Pay As You Go 3G at 30p per 20KB, roughly Rs 15 a MB, so dont browse long on that!! Data plans start from Rs 9 (the 10MB one day sachet elsewhere) and video calls, local, STD or roaming, are 5 paisa a sec.

The Assam specific bit is Airtel Video Talkies. Trailers of Assamese movies like Mon, Kadambari, Maharathi, Hiya Diya Niya, Rangdhali and Asin Sinaki are already up for 3G customers. For help call 12134 (toll free) or SMS 3G HELP to 121. Anyone in Guwahati on it yet?? Let us know how the speeds are.
