Google Voice Back On App Store With iOS 5 Compatability

Comments Off on Google Voice Back On App Store With iOS 5 Compatability

Google voice app was pulled from the app store following a major crash issue on devices running iOS 5. When all the developers updated their apps for iOS 5, Google stood out of the crowd without releasing an update. And very soon as users updated to iOS 5 on the very first day, the app started crashing right at the sign in screen and wouldnt even start up for a lot of users. Google pulled the app from the App Store around October 15th. Vincent Paquet, Senior Product Manager for Google Voice, confirmed the pull and said “Our last update of this week had a bug that caused the app to crash at sign in. We removed it so it did not affect additional users until the fix gets published”. If you already had the app installed, incoming calls and texts were still coming through, but you couldnt start a new text or make an outgoing call from your Google Voice number.

Well, after almost a week the app is back on the App Store as version 1.3.1.1891 and the release notes simply say “Fix for sign in crash introduced in v1.3.0.1771”. Google also tweeted that the app is now “iOS 5 friendly”. So if you were stuck with the broken version, head over to the App Store and grab the update. We’ll let you know if we hear of any more issues, so stay tuned.
