UAE has been expressing their concerns over the BlackBerry services since last week especially over the BlackBerry Messenger which sends messages to other users with encryption.These are hard to be monitored locally and hence it may cause National security threats.
“What security risks? Why do so many other countries including the US use BlackBerry? Aren’t they worried about their security?” said UAE political analyst Ibtisam al-Qitbi. “This is a sign we’re heading towards a stricter and more conservative regime, whereas the rest of the world is opening up, especially in the information technology field,”
The decision was made after RIM failed to agree with UAE in setting up a proxy server within UAE. Are you one of the BlackBerry users in UAE ? What do you feel about this ?
