Garmin buys Navigon: Aims To Boost Its Mobile Navigation Portfolio

Garmin, on Tuesday confirmed its acquisition of mobile navigation app giant Navigon who has been creating GPS navigation apps for the iPhone and Android platform. The apps have been selling pretty well so far. However, Garmin was never able to make a good step in to Mobile Navigation. Although they made several attempts to enter the mobile market, carrier reluctance and introduction of navigation services by Google and other existing players caused them to stay away. With the acquisition of Navigon, Garmin is hoping to patch this and become a pioneer in the navigation industry.

With Google Navigation on Android, Ovi Maps on Nokia and hopefully a new and improved map app on iPhone, is there a space left for this giant ?? Time will tell !!
