The fastest flash supporting mobile browser is now available for symbian s60v5. After running in alpha for a long time, skyfire team has made available the beta through their website. Alpha was not available through their site and required users to sign the software themselves. Most of you would remember the old post of the alpha we put up here, and this is the same thing finally done properly. Skyfire has pushed 1.5 out in two flavours, a proper release for s60 3rd edition and the s60v5 one which is still marked beta. All the touch work is in the 5th edition build. You get a finger friendly interface instead of those stylus sized menus, kinetic scrolling so you can just flick the page, a full screen mode that hides the UI and gives you the whole display, and auto rotate off the accelerometer so it follows the phone between portrait and landscape. 3rd edition users get smoother scrolling and some speed tweaks.
Flash works the way it always did, their servers do the rendering and pipe the page down to the phone, so Flash 10 and Silverlight both behave. Windows Mobile got 1.5 back in December and Skyfire CEO Jeff Glueck said of that one, “Video, text, and images all look crisp and stunning in high-resolution.” So symbian has finally caught up.
