Nokia Notifications: A New Notifier Widget

Comments Off on Nokia Notifications: A New Notifier Widget

Nokia Notifications gathers missed calls, voicemails, messages, and missed calendar alarms and presents them in one list for you to manage at your convenience. Adding the widget to your homescreen removes the need to acknowledge individual notifications that may otherwise get in the way of doing other actions on your device. The background of Nokia Notifications comes from the Nokia E-series phones and the way they show notifications at the bottom of the screen, and the team calls this a new and improved version of that for the N97 and N97 mini.

Thats the catch. Its the N97 and N97 mini only for now, and the missed calendar alarm bit needs device software newer than week 46 of 2009. Nokia say its a short trial to catch whatever bugs are left before the app goes up on Ovi Store, and all feedback is welcome but only the most critical items will be addressed. You have to be signed in at Beta Labs to download it.

The comments filled up the same evening with people asking where their phone is. E-series owners, 5800 XpressMusic, X6. A few also want it to show the next calendar item instead of saying no events, which sounds right to us. One user said they sacrificed their music widget to make room for this, so homescreen space is still the real problem here. We are installing it now, stay tuned.
