Nokia Ditches The Ovi Brand: All services to be renamed

Comments Off on Nokia Ditches The Ovi Brand: All services to be renamed

Nokia, today announced that their often confused Ovi branding will be removed from now on. if you are wondering about our Ovi Maps service and Ovi Music service, then you should know that these services will continue to work but with the title Nokia Maps and Nokia Music Store which we are honestly happy about. We never got why the services needed a separate name anyway, looks like Nokia agrees now.

The news came from Jerri DeVard, Nokia’s Chief Marketing Officer, on the Nokia Conversations blog. In her words, “By centralizing our services identity under one brand, not two, we will reinforce the powerful master brand of Nokia and unify our brand architecture.” So everything Ovi becomes Nokia. Ovi Store becomes Nokia Store, Ovi Mail becomes Nokia Mail, Ovi Contacts becomes Nokia Contacts and even Ovi Suite on your pc becomes Nokia Suite.

The switch starts with new phones in July and Nokia says it should be done everywhere by the end of 2012. If you already own a Nokia, dont worry, the new names will come via a software update. Nokia also says this is only a name change and the service roadmaps continue exactly as planned. With Windows Phone becoming their main smartphone platform soon, one less brand to confuse people cant hurt. Ovi means door in Finnish by the way and its been around since 2007. Goodbye Ovi!!
