Yesterday Jeff Verkoeyen, the lead engineer on the Facebook iPad app, wrote on his blog that he has quit Facebook and joined Google. He had been on the project since January and says it was feature complete back in May, but Facebook kept pushing the release out another two weeks, then another. In his words, “It is now nearly 5 months since the app was feature complete and I haven’t seen it released except for when the project was leaked on Techcrunch”. He has since edited the post, but the damage is done.
Mashable is reporting that Facebook will finally unveil the iPad app at Apple’s October 4th event, where the iPhone 5 is expected. A revamped iPhone app built on HTML5 is also said to be on the cards, and Apple might actually partner with Facebook on it. TechCrunch says the two had planned deep iOS 5 integration earlier which got killed when Apple went with Twitter instead. Next week should tell us a lot. Stay tuned.
