Mobile phones are replacing pretty much everything these days. And very soon you can get rid of those plastic cards in your wallet or your wallet as a whole.
NFC, expanded as the Near Field Communications is the next breakthrough in the communication. There are plenty of devices that have NFC feature built in like the Nokia C7 and many other new phones from Nokia. NFC will also help you share photos, transfer money or simply to friend someone on Facebook.
Major outlets like Costa Coffee, Burger King and Seattle’s Best coffee etc have come forward to adopt this payment system. Etisalat is holding talks with RTA(Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai) to bring this payment system to Metro and public transit. There’s no doubt this is going to speed up the payment process and will reduce the waiting times in queues and other public places.
Samer Soliman, Vice President and Head of processing at Network International said that there are 35,000 point of sale terminals in UAE, however only 600 outlets have NFC payment system at the moment. He also added that another 600 outlets will be added in the next 6 months.
