BlackBerry had said on Wednesday that the iPhone version would show up in each country’s App Store at 12:01 AM local time on 22nd September, which is why the Kiwis got it first. It works on iOS 6 and iOS 7 and its a free download.
You get your PIN, delivery and read receipts, multi person chats with upto 30 friends, BBM Groups for sharing pics and schedules, voice notes and the Broadcast option to ping all your contacts at once. BBM Channels, voice and video calling are not in this version, BlackBerry says those are coming later.
Android users, no luck yet. The Android version was supposed to be out first at 7 AM EDT today, but its running late and no word from BlackBerry on why. The BBM twitter account had a cheeky one on that, “Hey, at least waiting at home is better than waiting in line”. We’ll update once it shows up in the Indian and UAE stores, so stay tuned.
