Apple is all set to revolutionize education. In a special event in New York, Apple introduced iBooks 2 for iPad. iBooks 2 will contain all the digital versions of your text books. So next time when you work on your Biology project, you don’t have to carry those heavy 1000 page textbooks. Apple has gone beyond just digitalizing textbooks. They’ve found a way to even create study cards. Every text you highlight and every note you make on the iPad are automatically turned into study cards. Amazing, isn’t it ? And as usual they also contain inbuilt dictionary and other online resources to quickly search something.
Textbooks will be distributed via App store. At the moment, there are only high school textbooks which are priced below $14.99. But we will see textbooks on all subjects for all levels soon. Apple has partnered with Pearson, McGraw Hill and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
iBooks 2 for iPad is free and the iBooks Author app is also available for Mac to create some amazing textbooks. The app is now available on the Mac App Store for free. However, these books are around one gigabyte in size. So you may want to buy a 32GB iPad or the 64GB one.
UPDATE:
The update is now live. Please note that an iBooks 1.5 update will be shown first. After updating to 1.5, you may update to 2.0. It will simply appear in the updates tab after you update to 1.5.
